Family carers have a central role in the End of Life Care Strategy in many developed countries, but evidence base for how best to support them is limited. In a workshop in Manchester in June 2008, researchers from three countries (UK, Canada and Australia) considered the main challenges and opportunities, what has been achieved so far and what still needs to be done. Expert researchers in the field of family carer and age care research in the UK, Australia and Canada agreed on research priorities and set a research agenda for the next three years. Such a research collaboration will enable project development to draw on the strengths of research traditions and perspectives from each of the three countries.
