Abstract: This project aimed to, (i) document current practice in risk communication to women from high-risk breast cancer families, attending familial cancer services, (ii) develop a communication aid to assist women and geneticists/genetic counsellors to enhance risk communication and (iii) evaluate the impact of the aid on patient outcomes. The communication tool was amended to include feedback from patients and clinicians. A professional artist produced a 13 page full-colour document. The Communication Aid has been distributed to all familial cancer clinics in Australia where it will be individualised and given to women attending for counselling about their breast cancer risk.
