Abstract: The Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital bereavement service was established in 2001 in response to feedback from bereaved families, GPs and hospital staff. The bereavement service is a comprehensive approach to bereavement care at the hospital. The SCGH bereavement service will be evaluated to provide feedback to the bereavement team about the effectiveness of the program. This will enable the team to make any adjustments to the service that is required. Questionnaires will be developed that can be used to evaluate bereaved families’ satisfaction with the SCGH bereavement service and to assess staff satisfaction with the bereavement education program and the bereavement service. Descriptive statistics will be generated from the responses to the questionnaires. Comments will be analysed and areas for improvement will be identified.
