Professor Moyez Jiwa
Professor Jiwa completed his undergraduate training at Trinity College Dublin and vocational training in Scotland. He was awarded a Master of Medical Science degree at Nottingham University in 1998 and an MD from Sheffield University in 2003. Despite his academic commitments Prof Jiwa remains an active medical practitioner and was senior partner at a four partner practice in North Nottinghamshire until he was promoted to Senior Lecturer at Sheffield University in 2003.
Prof Jiwa moved to Western Australia in August 2005 and took up his current post in July 2006. Professor Jiwa has published thirty one papers in peer reviewed journals, has presented at national and international conferences and has been awarded over 4 million dollars in research grants in the past five years.
In 2004, Prof Jiwa presented this work at the UK House of Commons when his project was short listed for the Westminster Medal. Previously he was involved with the National Primary Care Collaborative, UK and helped to generate evidence for the value of telephone triage in managing access to primary care.
Professor Jiwa now represents primary care on the West Australian Cancer and Palliative Care Network and is a member of the International editorial board of two scientific medical journals. He is currently leading a program of research themed on timely access to appropriate health care for life threatening illness and the development and evaluation of complex interventions in primary care. Since moving to Australia Professor Jiwa has been promoted to Professor of Primary Care at Curtin University of Technology.
Professor Moyez Jiwa has been appointed Professor Health Innovation, Chronic Disease in the Curtin Health Innovation Research Institute (CHIRI). With this appointment to the new position of Chair within the Curtin Health Innovation Research Institute, Moyez will remain as part of the WACCPC team, however has stepped down as the Director of the Curtin site from May 2008.
